Preparations

We have been slowly ramping up the pace of our preparations to move to Honduras around August 1st.

I have been very blessed with the gifts of my friend Jen Bushman-- gentle nudgings and physical help to organize and pack up the house every Tuesday afternoon, reminders about details to remember (like cancelling my gym membership and putting our sewer payments on auto pay), and accountability to spend time learning some rudimentary Spanish. Here we are with the first boxes of Christmas decorations: one box labelled "For Honduras" and one box to stay here in storage.

Abigail and I have been taking turns using the Rosetta Stone computer program so we aren't completely lost when we arrive.

And sometimes Charlotte does some Spanish too. But mostly she likes to eat the microphone cover.

Jay's hand practice schedule is winding down-- which allows him more time to investigate tax issues associated with living overseas and finding wise investments for our nest egg-college funds. He's also busy preparing the house for rental. I've been spending Friday mornings at the pediatric rhuematology clinic for the last eight months, trying to prepare for the children who will come to CURE Honduras with non-surgical rheumatological diseases-- as well as finishing up my time as a pediatric resident clinic supervisor. We are both also preparing for exams this fall-- Jay's board exam for a certificate of additional qualification in hand and my re-certification board exam in internal medicine.

We are hoping to rent our house while we are away, but we haven't found anyone yet. A wonderful realtor named Sherry Enterline has been helping us make a flyer and a virtual tour of the house-- just because she heard about our plans in her Bible study, and she wanted to help. If you think of it, you could pray with us for just the right tennant at just the right time.

And now as we head into the home stretch, we are experiencing a lot of "last time" events before we leave. The last Easter egg hunts, the last medical student retreat, the last school fair. We are trying to maximize the number of memory making moments for our family. We are getting sad about having to say goodbye-- but look forward to the great adventure that God has for us in Honduras.
